I've always been interested in castles since they no longer build castles and the United States is not known for them.  I would love to visit the United Kingdom, Germany, or Ireland so that I see some of the castles in person.  The castle in the photo is in Germany.  I like how it on top of a mountain away from everything else.

There were a lot of different pictures and groups of photos that are available to view on the Flickr website.  I was not aware of this site before today so it took me a while to figure out how to be able to load the picture onto this blog from the Flickr website.

  1. Castles are so fascinating! I recently had the opportunity to co-lead a study abroad trip to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and we saw some amazing stuff - palaces, castles, ruins, etc. I would recommend spending some time in southern Germany if you ever get the chance. Be sure to see the Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria. Check it out! http://www.neuschwansteincastle.net

I sincerely hope you can one day travel to see some of these amazing places!

  2. Castles can connect us to a world simply separated by time. Monuments of what has been; a history that we Americans cannot truly grasp or understand without physically experiencing them for ourselves. At least, that is what I like to imagine. I personally have not been to any castles, nor have I even been outside of this country. Like you, I also hope to visit them myself because castles are so foreign and unique, and they represent a time filled with honor and darkness. Being an English major and having read plenty of books, the medieval time is as close to the fantastic genre as we can get when looking at history. Fantasy is filled with castles, horsemen, swords, bows and arrows, and ideas of honor and duty that rang true during those times. I like your picture because it inspires a story to be told.
